ToxicFree® ways to clean the playroom or classroom to keep them chemical free!

Part of the ToxicFree® Movement is leaving the world cleaner and healthier for the generations to follow. A great place to practice this is the playroom or classroom! Keeping toxic chemicals out of the reach of children is very important! Keeping their environmental exposure down is also important! Babies are being born with over 200 toxins in their cord blood. Reducing their toxic load will help them to live healthier, happier lives!

  1.        If possible open a window: Little bodies can create lots of unpleasant smells and the air quality inside a room can be 100x more polluted than the air outside!

  2.        Surfaces and counters: Dust everything from the top of the room to the bottom with a damp cloth to minimize airborne irritants. Cleanz Everything is an all-purpose cleaner that can be diluted to be as strong or as weak as you need it. Dilute as directed for surfaces and counters and scrub down every one!

  3.        Legos/Plastic Toys: In a tub or sink wash with Dishz, Potz and Panz or add equal amounts vinegar, water, and 4-5 drops each of Lemon and Tea Tree Essential Oils. Simply let them soak, scrub, rinse and dry. For a routine maintenance cleaning spray use 1-2 drops of the essential oils in a glass spray bottle and top off with equal parts vinegar and water. Spray the Legos/plastic toys and let dry.

  4.        Sticker Residue: To remove sticker residue and gunk use a drop or two of Lemon Essential oil on a cotton ball to scrub away the mess. Rinse off.

  5.        Sharpie/Markers/Crayon Marks: A drop of Lemon or Blood Orange Essential Oil can easily remove marks from walls and other hard surfaces!

  6.        Stuffed Animals: A quick wash with Sudz Laundry Liquid will clean and refresh their beloved stuffed animals. Washing not an option? Place the stuffed animal in a paper bag with a pre-combined mixture of baking soda and 1 drop each of Lavender, Lemon, and Tea Tree Essential Oils. Close the bag and shake to distribute the mixture over the stuffed animals. Let sit for an hour and then remove and brush off any excess over a trash can.

  7.        Stuck on food or other gross things: Spray with undiluted vinegar and wipe away. If you would like more power add a drop or two of Lemon and Tea Tree Essential Oil. Is it REALLY stuck on there? Use Superpowerz to get through really tough jobs!

  8.        Speaking of really tough jobs: in case of an accident on a rug or carpet, sprinkle the mess completely with baking soda to absorb moisture and odor. Once dry, vacuum or sweep up and spray down the area with equal parts water and vinegar plus a few drops of Lemon, Tea Tree and Lavender Essential Oil to disinfect and deodorize further.
