Deep Clean Your Bedroom the ToxicFree® Way!
ToxicFree® Ways to Clean Your Bedroom!
Your bedroom is where you spend a 1/3 of your life and it should be the most stress-free, cleanest, and ToxicFree® room of the entire house right? Chances are you haven’t really deep cleaned in a while! Let’s get to it!
Open the windows: The air in your home can be 100x more polluted than the air outside. Considering how much time we spend in our bedrooms it is very important that the air quality not contribute to our toxic load as well. Getting a plant for your bedroom can help keep the air quality purer, longer!
Clear out the clutter: It has been scientifically proven that clutter adds to our stress. So, pick up those dirty clothes and wash and dry them! Clear off your dresser and night stands (and please don’t shove it all in the closet either!
Woodwork: Dust any surfaces, starting at the top of the room and working your way to the bottom. For wooden furniture and baseboards use a conditioning spray of 1 ½ cups olive oil and a few drops Lemon Essential Oil in a glass spray bottle. Spray onto a clean cloth and rub onto the wood. Gently buff with a soft cloth to shine.
Floors: Have carpet? Sprinkle with baking soda and let sit 30 minutes, then vacuum. Hardwood floors? Mop with an equal mixture of water and vinegar with a few drops of olive oil to clean and condition.
Mattress: To refresh your mattress strip the bed and use a mixture of ½ cup baking soda and 12 drops lavender. Sift over the mattress and let sit 1 hour. Vacuum up the baking soda mixture. Have you flipped your mattress lately? If not do so and repeat the steps above before remaking with clean sheets.
Sheets: Did you know that most commercial detergents and dryer sheets will leave harmful chemicals and synthetic fragrances on your clothing and sheets? Those can transfer to your skin and be absorbed! Wash your bedding with Sudz Laundry Liquid Concentrate for a ToxicFree® laundry solution!
Mirrors/Windows: In a 16oz spray bottle mix 1/8 cup vinegar and water. Spray down the mirror and use newspaper to wipe clean! This same mixture can be used on windows as well!
Closets/Dresser: Remember how we said not to cram your closets and drawers full? It only takes a little moisture for your clothes to start smelling musty. Be sure that your clothes are completely dry before putting them away. To combat any odors, add a drop or two of Bergamot or Lavender Essential Oil to a cotton ball and place in the back corner of your closet or dresser drawers.
