Deep Clean Your Kitchen the ToxicFree® Way!

Here at GBN we’ve covered easy steps to a ToxicFree® home, but we haven’t addressed deep cleaning your home the ToxicFree® way. Over the next few posts we will cover ToxicFree® ways to clean your home, room by room, and the super simple swaps you can make to keep toxic chemicals out of your home!

When you ask most people, they will say that the kitchen is the heart of the home. Considering how much time we spend in the kitchen cooking, eating, it is important that toxic chemicals are not used to clean! Simple products, such as Cleanz Everything, white vinegar, lemon essential oil, and baking soda will be the most used tools for our ToxicFree® deep clean!

  1.        Dishes: Get that sink clear! Dishz, Potz, and Panz is a concentrated, biodegradable, naturally scented dish soap that gets your dishes clean while using less! Since we will be using the kitchen sink quite a bit during this deep clean, let’s start here by actually doing the dishes and getting them out of our way!

  2.        Kitchen Sink: To get your sink really clean, use 1/3 cup baking soda and enough warm water to create a thick paste. Add 2-3 drops of lemon essential oil, mix and then apply to the sink and scrub with a non-abrasive sponge. Rinse.

  3.        Kitchen Cabinets: Mix equal parts vinegar and water to create a simple cleaner that is gentle on any surface. For wood front cabinets - Add in a few drops of olive oil to help condition the wood as well.

  4.        Counters: Cleanz Everything is an amazing all-purpose cleaner! Simply dilute 1 tsp in 16 oz of water to clean almost any surface! Spray on, scrub away any mess, and wipe away with a damp sponge.

  5.        Floors: Mix equal parts vinegar and water for an exceptionally easy floor cleaner. For hardwood floors - Add a few drops of olive oil to condition and shine. Want an easier pre-made solution? Use the Cleanz Everything dilution we created earlier for the counters on the floor! Have a particularly tough spot? Use SuperPowerz! It is tough enough to use on outdoor messes yet gentle enough to use indoors!

  6.        Stove Top: For quick cleaning use the same Cleanz Everything dilution and for more stubborn messes create the baking soda paste again and apply to the stove top. Let sit 20 minutes, scrub if needed, and then wipe clean. For glass stove tops do not scrub or use anything abrasive to apply.

  7.        Fridge: To freshen and clean the inside of your fridge use the Cleanz Everything dilution! Empty your fridge, spray all surfaces, scrub and rinse away with a wet sponge. To combat odors, place a cotton ball with a few drops of Bergamot essential oil on it in the corner and after all smells have been dispelled, place a small box of baking soda in the back to keep it smelling fresh.

  8.        Oven: Have baked on crispy grime in the bottom of your oven? Sprinkle the bottom with baking soda and spritz with water. Let sit 30 minutes and wipe clean. To clean a cloudy oven window - Apply a paste of baking soda, warm water, 2-3 drops lemon essential oil and let sit 30 minutes. Wipe clean!

  9.        Microwave: The easiest way to clean the microwave is to steam clean it. Fill a bowl with water and add 4 drops of lemon essential oil. Microwave it for 5 minutes and then carefully remove the lemon essential oil water. (See the next project to see how to use the water) Now that your microwave has been steam cleaned you can easily wipe down the inside with a damp cloth.

  10.    Stinky Kitchen Sink: You cleaned the sink in an earlier step but it might still have a bit of an odor. Add 1-2 drops of Bergamot essential oil to the Lemon essential oil water from the previous step and carefully pour down the drain of your sink. Bergamot helps to neutralize odors while the lemon essential oil cleans!

  11.    Coffee Maker: Run a cup of vinegar through your coffee maker to clean and descale it. Follow with a cycle of plain water to rinse. Wipe down the outside with the Cleanz Everything dilution.

  12.    Cutting Board: When was the last time you deep cleaned your cutting board? Use a baking soda paste to scrub and deodorize. You can also use course salt and half a lemon. Rinse and finish with a spritz of distilled water with a few drops of Lemon essential oil in it. For a wooden board add a small amount of olive oil to the surface to recondition.

  13.    Sticky or Greasy Spots: Can you guess what essential oil is great for getting sticky stuff off any surface and degreases in a jiffy? Lemon essential oil of course! A few drops on a cotton ball will get the job done!
