ToxicFree® ways to deep clean your living room!

The living room can be a challenge to clean if you have many surface types to clean. Luckily it doesn’t take a whole bucket load of products to get the job done!

  1. Woodwork: Dust with a slightly damp cloth to minimize dust in the air and work from the top of the room to the bottom. DIY Wood Polish: In a glass spray bottle add a few drops of Lemon Essential Oil to 1 ½ cups olive oil. Spray onto a clean cloth and rub into the wood. Buff with a soft cloth to shine.

  2. Carpets: To freshen and deodorize your carpets, sprinkle them with baking soda and let sit 30 minutes, then vacuum. Have a stain? Mix equal amounts vinegar and water in a large glass spray bottle with 20 drops Lemon or Blood Orange Essential Oil. Spray onto the stain and scrub gently. Blot any excess away with a clean cloth. Try a small test patch out of sight if you are afraid of any damage. A small carpet cleaner, while expensive can also help keep high traffic areas clean!

  3. Floors: Simple Floor Cleaner - Mix equal parts vinegar and hot water and mop. For hardwood floors - Add a few drops of olive oil to condition and shine. Using Cleanz Everything? Add a 1 tsp to 16 oz of hot water in a spray bottle. Spray down the floor, then mop.

  4. Fabric Upholstery: Vacuum to remove any dust and debris. To clean make a foamy mixture of equal amounts castile soap and water by whipping or hand mixing. Sponge onto fabric and then wipe down with water.

  5. Microfiber: This cleaning method uses rubbing alcohol so if you are sensitive to strong smells you may want to look into other options.Windows: Mix equal parts vinegar and water in a glass spray bottle. Spray onto the window and use a crumpled newspaper to wipe dry for a clean, streak free finish!

    1. Step 1. Spray and saturate the area you are cleaning with rubbing alcohol.

    2. Step 2. Scrub the microfiber surface with a similarly colored sponge until clean.

    3. Step 3. Use a soft bristle brush to fluff the fibers.

  6. Blinds: If your blinds need more than a simple wipe down with an all-purpose cleaner such as Cleanz Everything and a cloth, remove them carefully and soak in the tub with a few cups of vinegar and a sprinkle of baking soda. Leave them to soak and bubble for a few minutes and then wipe clean.

  7. Curtains: Take them down and wash them! Sudz Laundry Liquid is concentrated yet gentle and is HE (High Efficiency) washer approved!

  8. Water Rings: Are your wooden table tops stained with water rings? Use equal parts of vinegar and olive oil applied with a cloth in the direction of the wood grain to lift the stain and recondition.

  9. All Purpose Cleaner: Cleanz Everything diluted to a weaker solution is perfect for all the other surface cleaning jobs in the living room! Walls, ceiling fans, baseboards and more! (avoid fabrics and electronics)

  10. Needing to deodorize or set a different mood: Use a diffuser and your favorite essential oil! Check out Chaé Organics Pinterest page for different blends to try out!
